I would like to send out congratulations to the first Bride of Tarrywile for 2015, Katie and Joshua, who were married in the Mansion this past Saturday, March 7th. Theirs is a prime example that it is possible to have a lovely wedding when there’s snow on the ground.
Becky and I had a chance to sneak down after they set up to see how they chose to decorate the Mansion. The main theme was based on Disney’s blockbuster movie “Up” in which the main character Karl , after many years spent married to the love of his life, finds himself alone. While reflecting on their many happy years together he realizes that the vacation they saved all their married life for never came to pass. He then decides to take the trip by himself to fulfill their long lost dream. Of course many wacky things happen along the way and many lessons are learned but in then Karl realizes that you need to stop and appreciate who is in his life today and not worry so much about the future. A quote from the director Pete Docter states it more clearly;
Katie & Joshua a.k.a. Karl & Ellie
Basically, the message of the film is that the real adventure of life is the relationship we have with other people, and it’s so easy to lose sight of the things we have and the people that are around us until they are gone. More often than not, I don’t really realize how lucky I was to have known someone until they’re either moved or passed away. So, if you can kind of wake up a little bit and go, “Wow, I’ve got some really cool stuff around me every day”, then that’s what the movie’s about.
To me this is a great lesson for a young, newly married couple; enjoy each day together, take time to just BE with one another, share your dreams and laughter, and don’t wait until you have more…time, money, etc. because you don’t know what tomorrow will bring.
